My Night at the Waverly

The ‘Meet the Author’ Event April 17th at the Waverly Inn in Cheshire was a great success. I’d like to say a big THANK YOU to all of my dear friends who came out to support me and my cause of raising domestic violence awareness. I had a lot of fun selling and signing books that night. And meeting so many wonderful new friends …

To Choose or Not To Choose

In today’s world we all have choices, some we may love and some we may dislike. But just for today let’s see if we can live by the following words:

Choose to Live by Choice not By Chance.

Choose to make Changes, not Excuses.

Choose to be motivated, not manipulated.

Choose to be useful, not used.

Choose to excel, not compete.

Choose self-esteem, not self-pity.

Choose to listen to your inner voice, not the random opinion of others.

Negative Nellie Returns

In a previous post I wrote about a client who shared with me one day that she never could come up with a mantra because she is the “Negative Nellie Type”. Today I want to share how easy it is to find positive almost anywhere. I was flipping through one of my most treasured catalog, Isabella. [IsabellaCatalog.com] and this is what I found.

Begin Again

Choose Happiness

Let Your Life Speakchoose happiness

Don’t Let Yesterday Take Up Too Much of Today

Begin Anywhere

Just When the Caterpillar Thought the World was over, it became a Butterfly…

Kindness Matters

Let It Be

Keep love In Your Heart

Always remember …

you are braver than you believe,

stronger than you seem,

and smarter than you think.

Just as important, remember Three Simple Rules in Life ….

1. If you do not go after what you want, you’ll never have it

2. If you do not ask, the answer will always be no.

3. If you do not step forward, you will always be in the same place.

So if you are a Negative Nellie, I sure hope this list will move you off that negative square, and start your day with a smile and a skip.

Hugs Casey

Two Words, Simple as That!

Last week a client shared with me she had gone to her first meditation class. She was frustrated because she couldn’t come up with a mantra because she is a” Negative Nelly” type. She was so pleased the instructor provided one for the class. Of course I had to ask, what was it?

With a big smile she said, “Let Go”. I thought, that’s simple. But after I thought about our conversation I wondered, is it that simple for everyone? What actually does that mean? Does it mean let go of your plan, or let go of your thought, your idea, the situation, let go of control?  Then I came across this in one of my Al Anon treasures….

Let Go

Let Go does not mean to stop caring.
It means I can’t do it for someone else.

To Let Go is not to cut myself off,
it’s the realization that I can’t control another.

To Let Go is not to enable,
but to allow learning from natural consequences.

To Let Go is to admit powerlessness,
which means the outcome is not in my hands.

To Let Go is not to try to change or blame another,
it’s to make the most of myself.

To Let Go is not to care for,
but to care about.

To Let Go is not to fix,
but to be supportive.

To Let Go is not to judge,
but to allow another to be a human being.

To Let Go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes,
but to allow others to affect their own destinies.

To Let Go is not to be protective,
it’s to permit another to face reality.

To Let Go is not to criticize, or regulate anyone,
but to try to become what I dream I can do.

To Let Go is to fear less,
and to love more.

~Author Unknown

So is it as simple as that? Is it just about two words?  Have you ever had difficulty letting go of something or someone? If so I hope this poem nudges you to new growth. Please feel free to share whatever you might be experiencing, that may be too difficult for you to Let Go. Here’s to fearing less and loving more.

Hugs Casey

Crawling Out – Another Rave Review

Here’s another reader’s review  ….

I just wanted to tell you what a pleasure it was to meet you the other night at the Manor Inn. I must admit, I really feel I met you before and I will figure out where. A lot of your story sounds familiar but because of domestic abuse in the late 1960’s with my first husband, I was traumatized and a lot is a blur. How I wished I had kept a journal but some things you just don’t want to remember. I am happy to say, this summer Tom and I will be married 45 years and I never looked back Crawling_Out_Coverand I sometimes feel it was all a dream or a nightmare. Lol. My friends from high school bring up situations and I don’t even believe the things they tell me happened. Thank God my trauma was short lived and I have continued to always improve my life with the help of inspirational books and the Bible. I became Born Again in 1988 and I continue to surround myself with positive friends and family.

I just finished your book and I just had a hard time putting it down. It was very Inspirational and I plan on purchasing more of your books for a few of my friends and family. You are an amazing woman and mother everyone should have. Your son sounds amazing, I just hope the criminal justice world doesn’t change him. Working in toxic surroundings may harden him, but I pray he will be able to stay strong. When I get with you again, I have so much to talk to you about, I already consider you a personal friend. I feel like I know so much about you. It would be a pleasure to call you my friend. I Zumba, almost daily, at Cardio Party on Meriden Waterbury Rd. We have a tight knit, positive energy group of girls , many who have mentioned they have taken the toxic people out of our their lives. This constant daily support of these girls has been a blessing to me also. Maybe you would like to join us?? Hope to see you at the Waverly Inn. Can you send me the date and time again since I have misplaced your note. Sending you positive thoughts.

Love and energy,

Connie

This Is Your Life

A New Treasure!

I often write about my treasures, and where I find them. This one I found in a bathroom, can you imagine? [Giggle] At the Gulf Stream Center for Health and Wealth. You know the place I blogged about in a previous post. It goes like this….

This Is Your Life

Do What You Love, And Do It Often.

If You Don’t Like Something, Change It.

If You Don’t Like Your Job, Quit.

If You Don’t Have enough Time, Stop Watching TV.

If You Are Looking For The Love Of Your Life, Stop; They Will Be Waiting For You. grateful

When You Start Doing The Things You Love. Stop Over Analyzing.

All Emotions Are Beautiful,

When You Eat Appreciate Every Last Bite.

Life Is Simple.

Open Your Mind, Arms, And Heart To New Things And People,

We Are United In Our Differences.

Ask The Next Person You See What Their Passion Is,

And Share Your Inspiring Dream With Them.

Travel Often;

Getting Lost Will Help You Find Yourself.

Some Opportunities Only Come Once, Seize Them.

Life Is About The People You Meet,

And The Things You Create With Them

So Go Out And Start Creating.

LIFE IS SHORT.

So Live Your Dream,

And Wear Your Passion.

When I read this I immediately thought it would make a fun bucket list, I don’t know what do you think? Maybe pick one or two for this week, and then another two for next week. Let me know how much fun you are having. For me I am looking forward to asking someone what their passion is.

Hugs,

Casey

Restraining Order Bill to Be Heard on March 11th 2015

The Judiciary Committee is hearing testimony on proposed bill 650 AN Act Concerning Restraining Orders the morning of Wednesday, March 11 2015. Ron Pinciaro, Executive Director of the CT Against Gun Violence would like us to help spread the word…. it is so important that we get as many people as possible at that hearing, especially on the Domestic Violence issue.  Even if you are not planning to testify or can only stay for a couple of hours, your presence means so much. Gun rights extremists in CT, supported by the NRA, have been very effective at making their presence felt in legislative hearings. We know this impacts legislators who often feel intimidated by their forceful opposition to any gun safety law. If we want lawmakers to take courageous stands, we must make our voices heard. Appearing and testifying at public hearings is a visible and effective tactic the media takes notice.”

Modification of Domestic Violence Restraining Order

What the Proposal Does

• The proposal would modify the current process for removal of firearms from persons who are the subject of temporary Domestic Violence restraining orders. The modification would require that a subject of a restraining order immediately surrender any guns or ammunition owned or possessed in cases where there is the use, attempted use, or threatened use of physical force against another person.

The Problem

• Firearms accounted for the murder of 100 women in CT from 2002 to 2011.

• Access to a gun in an abusive relationship makes it five times more likely that the woman will be killed.

• The period immediately following a victim’s application for a restraining order is the most dangerous time.

• On May 7, 2014, in Oxford CT, Scott Gellatly, 46, a subject of a restraining order applied for by his wife, entered the home of his mother-in-law, shot and killed his wife, Lori Gellatly, 32. He also shot and seriously injured his mother-in-law, Mary Jackson. The couple’s twin toddlers were in the house at the time. Scott Gellatly was supposed to surrender all his firearms under the order issued April 25. The killing came a day before a court hearing on whether to extend the restraining order.

Conclusions

• Women who have applied for restraining orders are at significant risk during the period before the hearing when their former partner retains access to guns.

• According to news reports, Governor Malloy has said, “What we’re saying is, if it’s bad enough to justify a restraining order being issued, it’s bad enough to take
the additional precaution of making sure that the weapons . . . can no longer be accessed.”

• Keeping domestic violence offenders from obtaining firearms is an evidence-based way to protect women.

Truly Clean

I am always surprised when I talk to people about having a healthy lifestyle and to watch their shocking expressions to some of their typical day to day choices. As I teach about having a healthy body and the little changes they can start with their moans and groans grow louder. But it is really is a very simple recipe. See Below…

Real, whole foods are the foundation for a clean body and long-term wellness. They are unprocessed and nutrient dense, loaded with vitamins and minerals. Meals should consist of fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, and healthy oils.

Adequate sleep [typically 8 hours] and exercising at least 30 minutes each day rejuvenates the systems of the body so they can remain clean, active and healthy without toxic, energy-boosting substitutes.

Water purifies and enhances the body’s ability to stay clean. Drinking at least 64oz of pure water daily is vital to wellness.

I am always available to sit with you to come up with how you will start and or continue on your new path to living well and making healthy lifestyle changes. I am just a phone call away. Start today by calling 860-628-8857.

Check out this video below. Dr. Nelson discusses a recent news story that has impacted the nutritional supplement market and the quality assurance provided by M’lis.

Protect Victims of Domestic Abuse from Gun Violence.

I just received this from CT Against Gun Violence ….

Last May, Lori Jackson, a 32 year-old mother of two living in Oxford, CT, was shot and killed by her husband after a court granted her a temporary restraining order. Despite the court believing Lori’s safety was at risk, her husband was allowed to keep his gun.

CT against gun violence

To close the loophole that puts women at mortal danger all too often, Governor Malloy has introduced legislation to prohibit domestic abusers subject to temporary restraining orders from keeping or buying firearms.

Like Lori, all too often women’s lives are put in danger because their abusive intimate partners are not prohibited from possessing firearms. Nationwide, female intimate partners are more likely to be murdered by a gun than all other means combined.

CT Against Gun Violence supports the Governor’s proposal and we look forward to your support to make state lawmakers aware that CT voters want common-sense laws to protect victims of domestic abuse from gun violence.

Please sign up here to join our grassroots effort to pass this important legislation. Your help is vital, as gun rights extremists are already lining up against the legislation. We’ll keep you posted through periodic alerts about contacting your lawmakers, attending hearings and public demonstrations of support.

Gov. Malloy’s legislation requires subjects of a temporary restraining order to turn in their firearms shortly after the judge’s temporary restraining order is issued, giving victims additional protection at this critical time. Many states, including California, Illinois, Massachusetts, and even Texas, prohibit firearm purchase or possession by people under domestic violence temporary (“ex parte”) protective orders.

Under current Connecticut statute, following issuance of a temporary restraining order there is a waiting period of at least 14 days before a court hearing is scheduled to determine if the restraining order should be made permanent. Only then can the abuser’s guns be removed.

“If a judge determines that a victim is in enough danger that they should be granted a temporary restraining order, that victim should not have to wait until they are fully protected.” said Gov. Malloy in announcing the legislation (click here for the Governor’s press release).

Your past support has made the state of Connecticut one of the safest from gun violence. Please click here to join our effort to make victims of domestic violence safer by supporting this important gun safety reform.
