Tips from the NO MORE Team

Here are some tips from the No More Team …..
no more 2
It’s only been a couple days since we shared the exciting news that a new NO MORE PSA is running during the Super Bowl this Su‌nday, (go HERE to check it out) and there’s already been a huge positive response. “How can I help?”   This is probably the question YOU’RE going to get while you’re watching the game on Sunday, so we thought we’d send along a few quick tips to help you speak up about these issues and provide you with ways you can help loved ones affected by domestic violence or sexual assault.

Tip #1. Start a conversation by telling your friends that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men have experienced domestic violence, and 1 in 5 women and 1 in 16 men have experienced sexual assault at some point in their lifetime. This is a great way to get the point across that these issues are serious and that many people we love have been affected by domestic and sexual violence.  (If your friends want to read more about these statistics, you can point them here: Avon’s 2013 NO MORE Study.)

Tip #2. Speak up when you hear offensive comments that degrade women, men, or victims of abuse. Hey, it’s a Super Bowl party — there’s a good chance that someone is going to make some inappropriate remarks. The best thing you can do is speak up and tell them that you’re not comfortable with that kind of talk. Simply doing that can help your friends understand that it’s not cool for them or anyone to degrade a person.

Tip #3. If someone you know discloses that they are experiencing abuse now or have in the past, remember this could be the first time they’re telling someone. Reassure them that you believe them and that the abuse was not their fault. The most important thing you can do in this moment is listen and support them. Most of all, make sure to be patient, non-judgmental, and respectful of their decisions. Ask them if they’d like to talk to a professional counselor, and offer to sit with them while they call a national or local hotline.

Tip #4. Make sure that your friends know whom to call to get help.
For immediate help, call 911
National Domestic Violence Hotline:
1-800-799-SAFE (7233)
National Sexual Assault Hotline:
1-800-656-HOPE (4673)
Teen Dating Violence Hotline:
1-866-3‌31-9‌474 or text “loveis” to 22522

The Super Bowl is a time for us all to get together and have a good time. And, when our ad is on the air, your friends and family are going to have questions about it. Make sure you’re ready to speak up so everyone you care about knows how important these issues are to you and your community. We can’t thank you enough for saying #NOMORE to domestic violence and sexual assault by helping spread the word on Sun‌day.

Talk to you soon,
The NO MORE Team

The Dragonfly

If I Only Knew!

I received a phone call from a friend, business neighbor, and a client. She called to share with me she had decided to make some major life changes, she was moving out of state and wanted to get together before she left. She gave to me a beautiful black and gold drawstring bag, inside, a beautiful, unique bracelet from her business, www.KazuriBeadsEast.com. A bracelet designed and assembled with handmade fair trade beads from Kenya and a small card with the Dragonfly Story. It goes like this:dragonfly

In almost every culture the dragonfly symbolizes spiritual change, self-realization, understanding and the acceptance of the deeper meaning of life. The dragonfly’s life cycle is one of struggle and transformation in order to become the beautiful creature it was meant to be.

It spends the majority of its life in a larvae stage, buried in mud, breathing through gills, then growing and shedding a crusty outer casing many times. After years in these muddy depths the dragonfly emerges to cast off the last outer casing and spreads beautiful iridescent wings that free it to fly with agility and lightness. This does not happen without a great deal of struggle, the ability to adapt and survive, and the hope of new life.

That is the power that creates its transformation.

Let this dragonfly be your symbol of perseverance, courage, and hope. May it remind you that by adapting to life’s many challenges and changes and finding the good in every situation, your struggles will eventually make you a new creature.

If I only knew sooner, I would have found a spot on the back of my book cover to place a beautiful dragonfly, for it so represents my story. What do you think? Does it represent yours too?

Hugs Casey

Another Book Review

In “Crawling Out”, Casey Morley bears her heart and soul to illuminate the issues of physical and emotional abuse. This very difficult and abuse-filled life story, as told by the author Casey Morley, is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, as described by this very gutsy woman. After enduring decades of abuse, and being repeatedly beaten down, this remarkable woman eventually scratched and crawled her way to rise above the cycle of abuse that we see all too often in our culture today, as well as in others. She has brought this cultural issue to the fore, and has enlightened us as to how to rise above it. I believe that this real-life story will resonate with scores of people who find themselves in the midst of an abusive environment. By bearing her innermost thoughts and fears, Casey Morley has shown us that it’s possible to “crawl out” and to break the cycle of abuse. As I read this book, and wrote this review, I was deeply moved by this story, with the knowledge that physical and emotional abuse are very common occurrences which affect hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) of people daily in the United States alone. Thank you Casey for shedding some light within the darkness.

Don’t Quit

An Oldie But Goodie

dont quitimage courtesy of bk

My last two posts have been about the treasures found tucked away on the top of my bookcase, well here is the last one that was in the pile. I am sure most of us have read this at least once in our life time, here is a gentle reminder ….

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest if you must, but do not quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a fellow turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow-
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than
It seems to a faint and faltering man;
Often the struggler has given up
When he might have captured the victor’s cup
And he learned too late when the night came down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out-
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems afar,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit,
It’s when things seem worst that you musn’t quit.
~Author Unknown

So if any of you are tired of the battle please” DON’T QUIT”  read this as often as necessary, and I hope it all will make what matters worth continuing to move forward. Continue to be the best you can be, and remember everybody is struggling with some kind of battle.

Hugs,

Casey

Why Worry?

shamrockAnother Treasure

Last week I found a treasure as I was cleaning off the top of my bookcase. There were actually three of them tucked away underneath my Lenox Footprints in the Sand statue. I purchase items that touch my heart or soul just knowing it will be the perfect treasure to send to one of my friends, at the very time they would need a lift, or just a reminder that: All is well.

This little card has a green shamrock on each corner and titled:  Why Worry?

There are only two things to worry about
Either you are well or you are sick.
                                                  If you are well,
Then there is nothing to worry about,
                                                  If you are sick,
There are two things to worry about,
Either you will get well or you will die.
                                                If you get well,
There is nothing to worry about.
                                                   If you die,
There are two things to worry about.
Either you will go to heaven or hell.
                                           If you go to heaven,
There is nothing to worry about.
But if you go to hell,
you’ll be so bloomin busy shaking hands
                                         with your friends.
You’ll have no time to WORRY!!!

So did that make you giggle? I hope so that way you were not busy being worried. At least for the moment. Have a blessed day.

Hugs,
Casey

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

I guess it’s true what they say, good things do come to those who wait …. ever so patiently.

It was February of 2013 when I submitted one of my first blog posts, A Welcomed Helper (also my very first YouTube video) to Women’s World magazine. Doreen Virtue’s editor called me last week to tell me they’re running my story!! My story will appear in the “My Guardian Angel” section of Woman’s World, Issue 52, cover date, December 29, 2014 and will be on sale from 12/18 – 12/24. Here’swomens_worldcover what Dr. Virtue had to say about my story:

“He certainly WAS an angel who saved them and their Christmas!” says Doreen Virtue, Ph.D. “Angels often appear in temporary human form to save our lives, as this angel did for Casey.”

“Casey’s fervent prayers and her son’s perfect faith were answered by an angel who appeared from out of nowhere, and took charge of the situation. The fact that this man was running down a snowy highway, that Casey’s son didn’t see or hear him, and that the angelic man told Casey exactly what she needed to hear, shows his angelic true identity. I even believe that the angel cleared the weather enough for Casey to safely drive the rest of the way home!”

“The angels say, ‘We do whatever we can, and as much as possible, to help keep you safe and protected.’”

Let this be a lesson to us all, to NEVER give up hope and to ALWAYS believe in guardian angels. And remember, good things really do come to those who wait! Here’s my amazing angel story, A Welcomed Helper ….

Congratulations Representative Dave Zoni!

I am thrilled my dear friend, Democratic Representative Dave Zoni was just re-elected to the Connecticut 81st Assembly House District, defeating formercasey and dave Republican Southington Town Councilor, Al Natelli. In a November 4, 2015 Record Journal article, Dave stated, “I’ve connected over the past two years with my constituents, I think I’ve done a great job for the folks and I’ll continue to do that.”

Check out a brief video (below) of Dave doing all that and more. He was kind enough to come to my recent Crawling Out Book Launch Celebration to declare his support for me and my mission to raise domestic violence awareness.

Thanks Dave!

My Wish for You

I am known to love the little treasures I come across, whether it be I find something along my way on my daily walk, or if I am in a unique kind of store expecting to find something that will touch my heart.  Today, as I was dusting off the top of my bookcase I came across what I consider a treasure. It is just a plain white card with black lettering, I purchased it awhile back believing when the time is right I will know who will need to receive this gift. As I was filling out the address on the envelope to mail to a friend who is going through a bit of a struggle, I decided to send it to all of you as well. This is what it says:

My Wish for you:

Comfort on difficult days.

Smiles when sadness intrudes.

Rainbows to follow the clouds.

Laughter to kiss your lips.

Sunsets to warm your heart.

Hugs when spirits sag.

Friendships to brighten your being.

Beauty for your eyes to see.

Faith so that you can believe.

Confidence for when you doubt.

Patience to accept the truth.

Courage to know yourself.

Love to complete your life.
