I would like to catch you up to date about Where Have I Been!!! With a heavy heart I share I have endured 2 1/2 years of a medical nightmare. It ALL!!! started December 2016 when I bent over to pick up a towel. To keep this as short as possible I will say the journey is book worthy. For a year and a half I was dismissed, devalued, my very debilitating state was ignored. I was told I was aging, I was anxious, depressed, one leg longer than the other etc. Bounced from doctor to doctor until one day in Physical Therapy I shared with tears in my eyes ” I can’t do this anymore, I am praying to die.” I asked the therapist to put her hand on my hip as I did a slight movement. I will never forget the expression on her face, or how fast she left the P.T. room. She came back moments later telling me the last doctor who referred me to her because my leg was longer than the other was at lunch. She promised me she will connect with him and get back to me. Later that afternoon she called and told me the doctor will get back to me.
Three days later the doctor called and said ” There seems to have been some confusion, you have a large tear in your Gluteus Medius muscle and it’s to late for surgery.” adding ” continue with physical therapy”. I was so devastated I called the doctor who ordered the MRI. Please tell me you are not reading the MRI the same. Another MRI was ordered more devastation Now!!! my Gluteus Medius and Gluteus Minimus are totally torn off the bone and are atrophied. I spent the next four months with a different Orthopedic group, first doctor said I am more a trauma doctor, referred me to the next doctor. He said only 50% chance of success, open surgery and 10 weeks on crutches. He referred me to the next doctor he said ” I will do orthoscopic and 6 weeks on crutches. I left his office thrilled and with a 6 week follow-up.
As we drove home I called the office back, asking if the doctor looked at the November 2017 and the July 2018 MRI? I was assured he did. His treatment for the six weeks made my pain debilitating in the first 10 days, so I stopped. All my calls and messages to his office went unanswered. On my follow appointment that doctor walked into the exam room with a totally different tune. ” You are between a rock and a hard place.” He actually yelled at me that day and started telling me his problems.
Thank the Lord I found Dr. Bryan T. Kelly and his team @ the Hospital for special surgery https://www.hss.edu/ I first met with Dr. Kelly on November 27th 2018. My surgery was scheduled for January 29, 2019 because they had to set up time with the plastic surgeon schedule as well.
It has been three and a half months since surgery. I still struggle with my thought process, but I was given permission to drive on April 23rd, I am now allowed to stand 2 hours a day, and use my crutch if walking more than a block.
To be continued
